D.I.Y Health Care (or Green Health Care, Part II)

I am really, really, concerned.

We Americans seem to love everything D.I.Y. – Do It Yourself. Except healthcare. Most of the time, our version of Do It Yourself healthcare is – TA DA! DON’T Do It Yourself. As in I Am Invulnerable.

I’m not exactly talking about preventive care here, although that is definitely a part of it. If you don’t get sick in the first place, then you won’t need much in the way of health care. Or sick care, to be more accurate.

Here’s the deal, though, and why I am really, really concerned.

It may not be too long before we’re not going to be able to get around like we did before, we won’t have access to the foods we’ve had, the jobs we’ve had, and we may not be able to afford medical care even if we could get to it. No docs, no drugs. Some people are already living that experience.

So that pretty much leaves us with Do It Yourself health care. Which means low-tech or no-tech. It means what you can do for yourself or your family or your neighbor when there is no one to turn to.

We can learn the basics of first aid. And we can learn about herbs. And we can learn any or several of the energy medicine modalities such as Reiki, EFT, QiGong, Healing Touch, and others. We’re going to need healers in every community.

Not everybody needs to learn everything, but there need to be people in every community that have knowledge of these things. Community defined as neighbors you could walk to if you had to. Or ride a horse or bicycle to. These are things anyone can learn and help make their communities as self-sufficient as possible. You don’t have to be some kind of special guru. We can all do this.

Energy healing is real, and it is powerful, and although it can’t do everything, it can heal more things than you can imagine. It’s true D.I.Y. health care.

And that’s today’s holistic health tip.
